Closet Dive: The ASOS Design Wedding Weekend Dress
While making space for a brand new pair of boots, I came across a 6 year old alteration promise.

Do you remember the mid 2010s fast fashion era when the UK dominated our carts? River Island, PLT, Topshop, Missguided, Boohoo et the holy grail for everything, everywhere all at once: ASOS.
Idk where you’re from, but in the North East, the girls loved ASOS. We loved asking for reminders on UK sizing conversion “wait, a 5 is a size 7, right?” et bumming off of each other’s birthday discounts before waiting with baited breath, to see if this would be the haul that incured duties. It truly was a time.
Within that era, my best friend got married et when you’re young, hot, working a steady job at Saks et living within a capitalistic system, you need a whole new roster of ‘fits for the wedding weekend. We have since learned, but back thennn I checked out with some shoes, a strapless top I didn’t even wear et a very loud, very fringed, very fluorescent orange ASOS Design halter dress.
There are many things you could tell me, but most of it was nothing! (Julien Macdonald tagged Ellie Truffle in the comments of this pic. Six years later et I still have no idea what that means)
T-Shirt: FWÉ, “Skirt”: ASOS Design, Boots: Charles & Keith, Jewelry: So Stylé
Six years doesn’t sound very long, but it’s also 2,000+ days so perhaps it is(?) Back then I had a thing for pink coats (although I might spin the block on that now that I remember it) et I was so obsessed with the Balenciaga Ceinture boots my bf at the time bought me Romwe dupes, which seriously ruined my feet, but I still wore for the look.
Scarf: a gift from a small boutique in Milan, Tank: It’s actually a graphic tank from Urban Outfitters worn inside out!, Earrings + Necklace: Handed down from grandma, Ring: bought from a street market in Porto, Portugal, Bag: A forgotten prop from a shoot I worked 5 summers ago
The fast fashion era before the ultra fast fashion era. Same waste, different time.
The day I bought this dress I knew I’d cut it eventually. She was cute, et she served her purpose, but my post pandemic boobs weren’t gonna do it justice, et I really liked her friend (the skirt) anyway. It wasn’t you bbgrl, it was me! There’s just something about long strands of fabric swaying sonically with every stride. Highly recommend a fringe skirt for anyone suffering from main character syndrome.
Six years doesn’t sound very long, but back then, summer belonged to the hotties, Rihanna had an LVMH-backed RTW line, tie-dye was everywhere et Keke Palmer publicly disclaimed that man. But my dears, seasons change, locations change et so did this dress.
